Your Daily Focus: Success
“Money is the byproduct of success” – Glenn Beck
Think about that one person you know who obsesses over every penny, or is always focused on a certain financial goal. Do they have enough money? Do they have career fulfillment? Odds are they have neither, because the focus is in the wrong place.
Money is measurable, quantifiable. Almost everyone wants more no matter how much they have. This idea of lack is detrimental to achieving what is truly desired, which is success. Success means something different to everybody: starting that business you’ve always dreamed of, being part of a charity, finding your soul mate, volunteering, or impacting the life of a child. They’re all fabulous! The beauty of success is that it’s unquantifiable. No one can put a value on you, or what you do. That is for you, and you only, to decide.
Once you have the feeling of success you want more because it feels so good. It starts compounding. You keep gaining momentum and moving in the direction of both true emotional and physical fulfillment. Do this exercise: figure out what makes you feel successful. Then lay out a plan of how you can do that more and more. Ignore all the distractions out there and stay focused just on that one plan. Tell yourself how you’re going to take action on that plan and keep thinking about it, and all the positivity that surrounds it. Pretty soon you’ll find yourself subconsciously gravitating towards doing what makes you feel best and helps you value yourself most.
If you embrace the idea of success, thinking purely in terms of success and nothing quantifiable that can create mental lack, everything else will take care of itself without you even thinking about it. You are who you are, and you know what makes YOU feel good. Embrace that, and embrace yourself. Celebrate that you have figured this out for yourself, and honor it.
Success is yours for the taking, it’s right in front of you; you just have to tell yourself you want it. The rest will come.
The Daily Focus this morning was written by a guest author, my son James. He has really been making a lot of big decisions in his life recently regarding work, home, car, and college. He has found this mechanism to clarify his focus and decisions, and is really happy and confident about them.
Your son, James, seems wise beyond his years. Good job James!
Hey James, this is great. I like the way you ordered the ideas: not everyone has the same idea of success; decide what makes you feel successful. It really got me thinking. Thanks.
Excellent piece of writing , James! The ideas are very well-articulated.
