Your Daily Focus: Soundtrack

06.02.2011 · Posted in Quotes / Daily Focus

One of the most powerful ways to lift your spirits is with music. For each of us it can be different songs, but there are always some that are purely uplifting to us.

So here’s my recommendation: listen to those songs! Yup, it’s that simple. If something makes you feel better, do it. Do it, more and more. Why not?

I want to share with you an Inspired Personal Story from my book Extreme Thought Makeover… 37 Days to Maximum Life! It comes from Chris Wacker in Milwaukee.

Hi Rick,

When I read your Day 30 lesson, it reverberated fully through me.

Positive music! After all, my blood type is B Positive … (get it? “be positive?”) … really!

Simplicity is part of what makes for a less stressful life, which helps with staying upbeat and positive but music … oh music! It has the ability to lift one’s spirits higher than just caffeine or an endorphin rush after a run.

As of this writing, I have 704 songs captured in iTunes. Nearly three-quarters of them have positive, life affirming lyrics. Any instrumentals have to be either fast moving, or the few that tap the foot a bit slower need an emotional touch to them. Tears can be uplifting, too, if they’re from good memories … and the soundtracks, the powerful soundtracks. Have you ever walked out of a movie theater so on top of the world because you were taken to another time and place, feeling as though anything was possible? Did you realize that music played a big part of that movie?

This world is so full of wonderful choices, all we need to do is choose! Choose to play your own positive, uplifting, life affirming music and it can change your perspective even during the darkest of times.

Music to the ear, set between “Fly Me to the Moon,” “Fly like an Eagle,” “America the Beautiful” and “Seasons of Love” from the musical Rent. From “Sweet Home Alabama” to “Sweet Home Chicago,” “Georgia on My Mind” to “California Dreamin’, ” “Higher Ground,” “Believe,” “Celebrate Me Home,” “Better Together,” “Can’t Keep It In,” “I Feel Free,” “Eyes on the Prize,” “Beauty in the World,” “Better Version of Me,” “Into the Light,” “Out of the Blue,” “Let’s Dance” … I think you get the idea.

So go ahead, choose to listen to things that lift you to a higher ground and start seeing the world around you in a different light.

  1. How fun that you chose the music theme for today! Just yesterday I was at the pool with my seven children totally aware and appreciating anything and everything I could about the beautiful weather, beautiful pool and every single person at the pool was smiling and laughing! This super old song came on and it transformed me back to sixth or seventh grade and flooded me with memories of being a kid when you just think about what is the next fun thing I can do? It made me feel so good and hopeful inside, it brought tears to my eyes with gratitude. Now for the hilarious part— The song was ‘Do the Hustle” (which we thought for months was “Do the Hot Dog”! If anyone remembers this song (think the 70′s) there is only one lyric in the song and it is not all that life changing, it is ‘Do the Hustle” over and over. Well anyway , it cracked me up and when explaining it to my kids, they rolled their eyes and reminded them that I must be really old.
Keep writing these fun posts and have an ideal day!
