Your Daily Focus: Letter

05.13.2011 · Posted in Quotes / Daily Focus

Yesterday I wrote about how the brain really doesn’t differentiate between the imagined and the observed world, and how choosing to tell a story in the most positive manner can help you immediately feel the best. It also appears that you are much more likely to manifest things and relationships when your emotions and thoughts are a match to what you want.

Writing it reminded me of one of the sweetest songs that I heard growing up. Fats Waller was perhaps my Dad’s favorite pianist, and my Dad’s piano playing was modeled after Fats Waller’s “Stride” style. Fats made this song famous in 1935, and I heard my Dad’s piano version hundreds of times. The lyrics hold the secret to a really magical exercise. I guess I can rack up yet another gift from my Dad that just keeps on giving. Here are the lyrics:

I’m gonna sit right down and write myself a letter,

And make believe it came from you.

I’m gonna write words oh, so sweet,

They’re gonna knock me off my feet.

A lot of kisses on the bottom,

I’ll be glad I got ‘em.

I’m gonna smile and say, “I hope you’re feelin’ better,”

And close, “with love” the way you do.

I’m gonna sit right down and write myself a letter,

And make believe it came from you.

Ronda del Bocchio, The Story Lady, wrote a wonderful comment yesterday, “Your life is YOUR story to tell. So tell it like the best story ever told… live in the story that feels good, the one in which people get the benefit of the doubt, a second chance, and a loving response.”

Do you see how magical this is? Try using this sweet idea on every relationship you have… including your relationship with yourself.

  1. Rick, this is so awesome!!! You inspired me to sit right down and write myself a letter… :-) . Here is a portion of it (it’s a long letter!): …I flow the energy of the Universe through my being. I AM the energy of the Universe, I KNOW that, and I move with that in every single moment. I cherish myself, I revere myself and I only focus on myself and MY life. I am a role model for that, an inspiration to others from that. I am divine grace, love, wisdom, knowing, trust, adventure, anticipation, excitement, wholeness, wellness. I teach through example…
Rick, you got my day of to a really really really great start. Thanks!!

To Rick and the Story Lady:

If everyone on this earth did what you stated the other day, Your Life is “your story to tell” meaning we can change our lives at any given moment, just like a book, then absolutely no one would ever need a pychologist! They would solve everything themselves!

If you don’t like who you are, write a new chapter…if you don’t like what you are doing, write another chapter, if you don’t like who you are with…another chapter in the “novel of YOU.” That’s the glory that we have been given on this earth, We HAVE choices! Our Creator has given us our lives to create.
