Your Daily Focus: Journey

04.22.2011 · Posted in Quotes / Daily Focus

Don’t rush to the finish line; the excitement is in the race.

When you open a book do you ever wish to be on the last page? When you go to a movie, do you ever wish to get right to the ending? When you take a vacation and fly off to a beach, do you ever wish to get right back on the plane and fly home so you can be done? Do you ever think in terms of “accomplishing” a vacation?

“No” to all of the above, of course. The same is true of life, and all of life’s stages. Do not rush through life. Don’t try to get to the finish line as fast as possible. Enjoy each stage. Enjoy the falling in love, and allow it to take its full course. Enjoy the breaking up of a relationship; it is an amazing journey filled with some of the most desire-inspiring energy there is.

Enjoy changes at work, ever-evolving job tasks, and ever-changing co-workers. Enjoy the birth of your child; it is actually a nine-month process. Enjoy each stage of parenting to it’s fullest: newborn, infant, toddler, child, pre-teen, teen, adult. Experience the death of someone you know, it is just as great a miracle as birth, just as big a transition, and just as big an opportunity to grow and expand.

Let life naturally flow from one stage to another. Living with parents. Education. Dating. Marriage. Home ownership. Career changes. Retirement. Don’t think in terms of “accomplishing” any of these stages. There is no winning or losing. Simply immerse yourself in the experience you are in right now. That is the journey. That is the great and wonderful mystery.
