Your Daily Focus: Give-Away
In the past I have spoken of “clearing,” how clearing your physical space can actually clear your mind, and open you up to the energy of endless possibilities in your life (see http://www.rickschaefermd.com/blog/quote/daily-focus-clearing/). Today I would like to give you a sweet technique to bring even more positive energy into your life as a follow up to this.
As you remove items from your physical space, you can give them away, recycle them, or dispose of them. The items you would like to give away, place them in the garage and plan for a “Give-Away Day.” This is like a rummage sale or garage sale but without the price tags.
When stuff really starts to pile up, call your friends and neighbors and invite them to come and get all your stuff. Make it an event. You can serve snacks and beverages. Consider that they are doing you a favor by clearing your garage. They will really enjoy this event, and you will create a great memory for them and for you.
There are other hidden benefits. In addition to the great memories you will create, you will also effectively de-clutter. You will also give the objects themselves a future, that is, a much more useful and vibrant life in their new home, which in a way honors the objects and the planet. You will also avoid the energy of judgment, placing a price tag and value on each item.
You will also avoid the energy of “lack” associated with the claim that you NEED every dollar on each price tag. You will shift instead to an energy of abundance by embracing the fact that you can give away whatever you like, and still have well-being. Finally, by embracing gifting energy, you attract gifting energy toward yourself as well. In other words, by giving, you will attract giving… so get ready to embrace receiving in new ways in your life.
All this goodness from a simple single event, a “Give-Away Day.” Oh yeah, and it feels good too. Imagine that.
Rick,
I have done this a bit differently thna you descrived with the same outcome. It felt so good to clear out my place and give it away to someone that would get benfit from it. I now do this exercise on a regular basis and it feels so good each time. Thanks for the reminder.
Kevin
