What you got is what you got, and it’s all you got right now, so you might as well make the best of it.

I am driving to work, and there is construction and the traffic is really slow. So I might as well make the best of it… and put on a very special audio CD to listen to.

The bagel shop is completely out of sesame seed bagels at the moment I order breakfast. So I might as well make the best of it… and embrace the opportunity to try something other that my usual, hmmm, like an everything bagel.

I get to the office and one receptionist called in sick and we’ll be really struggling to stay on time today. So I might as well make the best of it… and enjoy the slightly slower pace all day today.

My sister is kinda mad at me right now because I am not following her wishes with regards to some financial matters. So I might as well make the best of it… and enjoy the extra time we both have to adjust our thinking around the negotiation.

My best friend up in British Columbia hasn’t received the box of collectible toys I sent last month because my timing was perfect for the Canadian Postal strike, nor has he received the 6-day ground shipment via Federal Express that I sent shortly thereafter. So I might as well make the best of it… and appreciate the additional anticipation energy that is building as we are both awaiting his reaction to opening the boxes.

Bummer, I’m all out of Cheetos! So I might as well make the best of it… and enjoy my body’s reaction to the apple I found in the back of the fridge.

My kids are all traveling out of town over this Independence Day holiday. So I might as well make the best of it… and take advantage of the opportunity to get ahead on several major projects that have been patiently waiting for me at work.

It’s probably all perfect for me exactly the way it is anyway.

What’s the alternative?  To make the worst of it? That clearly just doesn’t make any sense at all.

Well, you guessed it, the moral is: you might as well make the best of everything every time. Our mothers all knew the brilliance of this, and told us frequently growing up. So here I am, bringing the same message to you now, “Dear child, make the best of it.”

    Making the best of every situation is the absolute remedy to avoiding
    unattractive thoughts or actions.

  5. Yes, ‘Make the best of it!’ Sometimes, we realize that what happened, happened for a reason, although this realization comes with hindsight. Besides, taking things in stride is excellent practise for composure!
